From neighbours, leaders and parents

Hear from the communities already running on Buzzer.

We had a fire in March. Three neighbours were on site before the fire truck arrived. Buzzer kept a detailed log, so we could brief the body corporate that same evening.

I trust SafeTrack to alert me when my kids arrive home safely — no waiting on a message from them. My kids love it too. There's an option to keep their live location private, giving them extra freedom, while I still receive arrival notifications.

Why not just a WhatsApp group

WhatsApp is for talking. Buzzer is for managing a community.

Most communities already have a group chat — or twelve of them — with no way to send help, keep a record of incidents, or collect fees and donations. Buzzer complements and amplifies your current setup.

WhatsApp Groups

What you have now

  • Twelve groups — three of them silent, two arguing about service delivery
  • One feed for everything: safety, sales, and services
  • Dated responses — "Anyone hear that bang?" replied to two days later
  • No location sharing, no responder routing, no record keeping, no membership management
  • Bots and bad actors can join freely through links
  • When the admin leaves, the group dies with them
  • Your data is funding a large multinational corporation

FAQ

Questions neighbours actually ask.

If we missed yours, hello@buzzer.co.za is read by a person.

It's more than just a panic button. Buzzer is a purpose-built platform for users and community champions. It's a place to request assistance, report and record incidents, send and receive broadcast messages, manage members and subscriptions, and handle payment collection and distribution — all in one verified, structured environment.
Your alert instantly notifies nearby Buzzer users who have opted in to receive alerts. Additionally, if you are part of a community with alerts routed to their preferred responders, the alert is automatically sent directly to their control room.
Armed response secures your home; Buzzer secures you. While traditional security only reacts to a home alarm, Buzzer alerts your neighbours and your preferred responders for any emergency, whether you are at home or on the street. Ask your provider whether they can receive and respond to your alerts.
If you are a member or contributor of a community that offers national response, when you are outside your local community in the public domain, you remain protected against both medical and security-related incidents — offering peace of mind in most urban areas of the country.
Downloading and using the Buzzer app is completely free. However, joining a specific community as a contributing member may have a cost. Communities dictate their own membership fees (including choosing not to charge). The price is set by your community champion, usually based on the safety and security initiatives they are funding in your area.
Only limited data is shared when you trigger an alert, and only with the vetted responders your community has contracted. Your location is never shared continuously. Buzzer is fully POPIA compliant and built with your privacy as a priority — your location data is encrypted and securely transmitted at all times.
Buzzer relies on other users in your vicinity to report and send alerts. If there are no active Buzzer users in your area or no recent alerts, you may not receive alerts. Increase the radius in your Buzzer app to receive alerts from a bigger area. The default is 250 metres and can be changed up to 10 km under Profile → My Locations.
The app operates best with standard cellular coverage to send alerts and track your location. If you are frequently in areas with poor signal (like mountains or valleys), we recommend the Buzzer panic button. It runs on low-frequency networks and stores your last known location, uploading it the moment connectivity returns.
It can, if you'd like it to. However, some users prefer to keep their live location private within SafeTrack groups, with notifications sent to admin members only when arriving at saved locations — such as school, home, or granny's.
Get your community signed up first. Once Buzzer is the coordination channel in the area, responders join because everyone else is already on it. That's exactly how it played out across Hout Bay's competing security companies — they now share a single coordination view.
